Mythical Bird like Creatures that Are Really Cool

So many of you have seen or heard of the Giant Eagles of Middle Earth, but did you know there are a lot more cool mythical bird like creatures? I am sure many of you are familiar with one of my favorites—the Phoenix. The Phoenix can be a bird of hot fire or cold fire that has the ability to rise from the ashes upon death. They are found throughout many fantasy novels and some Biblical references as well. Some of you may know about the Phoenix in Warcraft, Warhammer, Narnia, Harry Potter, or Vengeance of Valdorian (a good novel from my perspective), but there are many other great bird like creatures that you may or may not know.

My second favorite fantasy bird like creature is the Griffon—commonly seen as a half eagle and half lion/tiger hybrid, the griffon serves as a noble creature—many though have different variations, as seen in Warhammer, Harry Potter, etc. Some can have a dark shaded appearance, others could resemble more like half horse and half eagle—in which case this creature is referred to as a hippogriff.

As seen in popular media and Greek mythology, many of these creatures are known to us—but do you guys know about the Thunderbird? An electric charged bird? Or a Roc, a giant bird from the Sinbad series that was stated to be big enough to pick up an elephant? What about a Cockatrice or a Jabberwocky? Jabberwocky is probably one of the lesser-known bird-like creatures, often appearing like a half dragon/half vulture hybrid.

So this completes my short list of some cool mythical bird creatures, I must apologize for not blogging sooner, and I have been really busy dealing with personal stuff. I’ll try to post more pictures and some more goodies are on the way. Also, if currently doing an Ardor campaign, post on my blog, I would like to see the ideas of everyone.
